Monday Morning Giraffe at Tembe…

This morning I decided to take a quick look at the Tembe Elephant Park webcam before we left for joburg. I was pleasantly surprised to find a young giraffe being shown at the water hole. It is only the second or third time I have seen one there. There was also a small herd of kudus having their breakfast. When a giraffe needs to take a drink, they must check carefully that there is no sign of any predators because when they do the splits to get to the water they are very vulnerable. So the day started out with a smile on my face thanks to Tembe’s webcam.

Love those giraffe and our elephants you found at the watering hole that one morning! Looks like you have another giraffe for your collection. We are hoping to get to a Koala Sanctuary, where there are also kangaroos and other native animals, but it still will be like a zoo and we aren’t too keen on those anymore after being on our game drives.

Yes – after being on game drives and seeing the animals up close and personal zoos or even compounds where the animals are kept in restricted areas are not very interesting. Of course all the game reserves – at least here in South Africa – have fences but within the fences the animals are free to wander around and eat each other. Some of the couples are just 60-90 minutes from Kruger and so they can go there regularly on P-days like we did when we were in Richards Bay.
